Candidates who complete the program of study may be recommended to arkansas department of education for licensure as teachers in the grade ranges and content areas listed below.

The college of education offers a master of arts in teaching mat degree program created especially for individuals without teaching credentials who have earned baccalaureate degrees in specific content areas and want to become teachers in an expeditious fashion. The master of arts in teaching program at southern arkansas university is designed to enable career changes for those people who hold a baccalaureate degree in subject areas commonly taught at the elementary middle and secondary level grades k 12. Notice that mat 5310 and mat 5320 are prerequisites to all other courses.
