Throwing Ceramic Cylinders

Throwing ceramic cylinders. Throwing clay on the potter s wheel is a rewarding activity that uses both mind and body. Making a cylinder is the the most basic form and serves as a beginning point for most aspiring ceramicists. If there is a large amount of clay around the base of the piece then trim the base of the piece with a wooden tool that is cut at a 45 degree angle. I won t divulge how long it has been since i had that assignment but i still got a ton out of this demo.
To begin you must gather your tools and materials. We ve probably all had this assignment in our beginning wheel throwing class. For this demonstration i m only using a few of the most basic ceramics tools. Repeat pulling until the walls of the cylinder are thick enough for you which is about a quarter of an inch thick.
